Yanga Signs Sh5.5 Billion Deal to Build Yanga Tower in Kariakoo

Yanga SC has written a new chapter in its history after officially signing an agreement for the construction of a modern commercial building, Yanga Tower, in Kariakoo, Dar es Salaam.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Yanga President Engineer Hersi Said said the project fulfils a long-standing vision of the club’s elders, who had dreamed since the 1960s of owning a building that would serve as a headquarters and a source of institutional income.

Engineer Hersi said efforts to acquire the site even involved the club playing friendly matches and using gate receipts to help purchase the land. One of those matches was against Kenyan club Leopards, an event that remains an important part of Yanga’s history.

“Today, we have taken on the responsibility of carrying that vision forward. As we begin this construction journey, we are not simply building a structure; we are building history, creating a legacy and building for future generations,” Hersi said.

Sh5.5 Billion Construction Contract

Construction of Yanga Tower will be undertaken by Group Six International, a company selected following a tender process that assessed its capacity, quality of work, cost and delivery timeline.

The contract is worth Sh5.5 billion, with the project expected to be completed within approximately 12 months.

The building will have mixed-use facilities, with commercial spaces on the basement, ground and first floors, while the second through tenth floors will be used as storage warehouses.

The 11th and 12th floors will be designated for residential use, featuring approximately 13 units, while the rooftop will serve as a social space for relaxation, coffee and dining, meetings and watching sports.

With this design, Yanga Tower aims to become more than just a club building, positioning itself as a centre for business, residential and social activities in the heart of Kariakoo.

Azania Bank to Finance Project

In another significant development, Azania Bank will finance the construction of the project to the tune of Sh5.5 billion.

Azania Bank Director of Assets and Transactions Eugene Kimaro said the bank believes in Yanga’s vision and is ready to ensure that the project’s funding is available and implementation proceeds as planned.

“I would like to congratulate Engineer Hersi for his vision of making this club a model in every department. Within 12 months, we expect to return here to officially launch this building,” Kimaro said.

For its part, Group Six, through QS Leon, has pledged to focus on three key areas during implementation of the project: value for money, quality of work and timely completion.
