Yanga SC will officially use Azam Complex Stadium in Chamazi as their home ground for the second leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary-round tie against Botswana’s Gaborone United.
The match is scheduled to be played on Saturday, September 12, 2026, kicking off at 7:00 p.m.
The main reason Yanga are returning to Azam Complex for their international fixtures is the closure of Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and New Amaan Complex.
Both stadiums are currently undergoing major renovations and upgrades to prepare them for the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The first leg between the two sides will be played away in Botswana on Saturday before Yanga return to Dar es Salaam to finish the job. The aggregate winner between Yanga and Gaborone United will face the winner of the tie between CFFA of Madagascar and Lijabatho FC of Lesotho in the next round.
Yanga will return to Azam Complex after a long absence, having gone approximately 510 days without playing at the stadium.
The last time the Wananchi played at the venue was during the 2024/25 season, when they faced Azam FC in a second-round league fixture and secured a 2-1 victory.
Yanga left the stadium after suffering back-to-back league defeats against hosts Azam FC and Tabora United (now TRA United) toward the end of 2024.
There were several reasons behind the club’s decision to leave the venue, but they were largely related to administrative issues and a lack of trust.
This time, Yanga are being forced to return to the stadium once again because, as things stand, all the venues they have been using for international competitions are undergoing renovations.
Azam Complex has been approved by CAF for use in the preliminary and first rounds, but it will not be available from the group stage onwards.
This means that if Benjamin Mkapa and New Amaan Complex are still under renovation, the Wananchi will have to find another venue.
Meanwhile, renovation work is also underway at Uhuru Stadium, and there is a strong possibility that the venue could be used from the group stage onwards.
