Yanga SC and football fans across Tanzania will continue to remember the club’s former president and member of its Board of Trustees, Francis Kifukwe, who passed away in India.
Kifukwe, one of the most influential leaders in Yanga’s history, is remembered as a strong pillar who helped steer the club through periods of transition as well as major financial and leadership challenges.
During the 2000s, Kifukwe personally committed his resources to supporting the team financially at a time when the club was facing severe financial difficulties.
He led the club on the principles of unity, believing in the strength of its supporters and members. His firm stance and genuine love for Yanga made him a beloved figure among many Wanayanga, while he was also regarded as an important bridge for reconciliation and harmony within the club.
Beyond his strong leadership, Kifukwe will also be remembered for his exceptional eye for talent. He played a key role in facilitating the signing of players who went on to become important figures for both the club and the national team.
His death has left a significant void not only within Yanga but also across the entire football fraternity in Tanzania.
Members of the public, club members and supporters will have an opportunity to pay their final respects at the Karimjee Grounds on Thursday, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
