Former Young Africans SC (Yanga) Technical Director Paul Matthews has officially returned to South Africa after being appointed as the new Sporting Director of Marumo Gallants ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Matthews leaves Yanga after serving the club for one season. During his tenure, he oversaw the club's technical operations, including first-team development planning, player recruitment, and youth talent development.
Before joining Yanga in 2025, Matthews was widely respected within South African football.
He previously worked with SuperSport United, AmaTuks, Jomo Cosmos, and Tembisa Classic, building a strong reputation for identifying talent, managing player recruitment, and establishing youth development systems.
At Yanga, Matthews played a key role in strengthening the club's technical and recruitment departments, working closely with the club's leadership to build a highly competitive squad capable of challenging in both domestic and international competitions.
He also oversaw the launch of the Yanga Football Academy project, where young players are currently being developed through the club's youth program.
Matthews' departure means Yanga will now have to find a replacement for the important role during the current off-season following the conclusion of the league campaign.
