Yanga SC attacking midfielder Allan Okello continued to prove his value with a superb hat-trick in his side's 3-0 victory over TRA United, putting the defending champions in a commanding position to win a fifth consecutive Mainland Premier League title.
Yanga now have 72 points and mathematically need just one point from their final match to secure the league championship.
The "Wananchi" will conclude their season against JKT Tanzania on Tuesday, June 30, at Major General Isamuhyo Stadium.
Okello, who joined Yanga during the January transfer window from Uganda's Vipers SC, has quickly established himself as one of the team's most influential players despite arriving midway through the campaign.
Although he joined halfway through the season, Okello is now just one goal behind the league's leading scorer, Feisal Salum "Fei Toto," who has 15 goals. Following his latest hat-trick, Okello has raised his tally to 14 league goals.
Yanga have scored 68 league goals this season, and Okello has been directly involved in 21 of them, contributing 14 goals and seven assists.
With just one match remaining, the Ugandan international still has an opportunity to overtake the Golden Boot race and strengthen his case for the league's Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
