Pyramids FC striker Fiston Mayele has been included in the DR Congo squad set to participate in the FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to kick off on June 11 in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
History is set to be made as the former Young Africans SC (Yanga) forward prepares to feature in the worldβs biggest football tournament.
Mayele is the only player from the current generation of footballers who have played in Tanzania to feature at the World Cup, where he will represent his country on the global stage in the most prestigious international competition.
DR Congo is expected to receive strong support from East Africa, with many fans in the region backing Mayele, who previously starred for Yanga.
He famously set a record as top scorer in the CAF Confederation Cup while at Yanga, before repeating similar success in the CAF Champions League with Pyramids FC.
Fans from Tanzania, especially Yanga supporters, are expected to follow his journey closely and support their former striker as he represents DR Congo on the world stage.
