Kariakoo Derby Final: Yanga and Simba Set for Muungano Cup Showdown

The long-awaited day for football fans in Tanzania has finally arrived. It’s the Muungano Cup final between Yanga and Simba, set to take place at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.

This is the Kariakoo Derby—marking the third meeting between the two rivals in the 2025/26 season.

The two sides first met on September 16, 2025, in the Community Shield, where Pacome Zouzoua scored the only goal to secure the trophy for Yanga.

They faced off again on March 1, 2026, in a Mainland Premier League match at the same venue, which ended in a goalless draw.

Now, they meet once more at the New Amaan Complex in a decisive clash where a winner must be determined—either within 90 minutes or through a penalty shootout.

Yanga are the defending champions of the Muungano Cup, having won the title last season after defeating JKU in the final.

It presents another opportunity for Yanga to retain the trophy and bring it back to Jangwani for a second consecutive season.

However, it will not be an easy match against their rivals Simba, who have gone seven consecutive matches without a win against Yanga.

Yanga head into this match in better form compared to their last meeting in March.

The presence of attacking midfielder Pacome Zouzoua is a major boost for Yanga, as he missed the previous encounter due to a shoulder injury.

Pacome has scored two goals in his last two matches against Simba and has three goals overall in derby encounters.

He has proven to be a decisive player in past derbies and could once again influence the outcome of today’s match.

Tactically, Yanga have also improved. The arrival of assistant coach Abdulhamid Moalin has brought a shift in playing style, with the team now adopting a faster, more attacking approach compared to the start of the season.

Yanga fans are expecting a more offensive display today, unlike the previous match where the team spent long periods defending.

Overall, the game is expected to feature attacking football from both sides, with defensive discipline and clinical finishing likely to determine the final result.
