Mainland Tanzania champions Yanga will open their Muungano Cup campaign today with a quarter-final match against Muembe Makumbi, scheduled for 7:15 PM at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.
Yanga enter the tournament as defending champions, having won the title last year with a 1-0 victory over JKU in the final.
The team has arrived in Zanzibar with a full squad, with the technical bench showing clear intent to defend the title for another season.
However, Yanga are also using the tournament as part of their preparations for the upcoming Kariakoo derby against rivals Simba, set to be played on May 3 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Head coach Pedro Gonçalves is expected to use the competition to give playing time to squad members who have had limited opportunities this season.
