Yanga SC goalkeeper Aboutwalib Mshery is expected to undergo further medical examinations on a knee injury he sustained while the squad was completing preparations ahead of their Premier League match against Pamba Jiji at CCM Kirumba Stadium.
Mshery missed the match, which Yanga won 3-0, with Hussein Masalanga keeping goal for the defending champions.
“Mshery did not feature in the match against Pamba after injuring his knee in our final training session, which is why Masalanga started in goal.”
“The medical team is monitoring his progress and he will undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury, after which we will share the doctors’ findings,” said a Yanga official.
Yanga returned to Dar es Salaam yesterday and will play in the CRDB Federation Cup round of 16 against TMA on Saturday, with Masalanga expected to continue in goal.
First-choice goalkeeper Djigui Diarra will also miss the match, as he serves the final game of his three-match suspension.
Diarra has already missed matches against Tanzania Prisons and Pamba Jiji.
