Yanga striker Clement Mzize has endured a difficult season due to recurring injury problems.
After spending nearly three months on the sidelines, Mzize made his return in the CAF Champions League match against :contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2} in Morocco, where Yanga suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat.
He featured for about 15 minutes in that game, which marked the beginning of Yanga’s struggles in their quest to qualify for the quarter-finals following the loss.
Since then, Mzize has not appeared in the three subsequent matches, with reports indicating he has suffered another injury setback.
Yanga Head Coach Pedro Goncalves admitted that the continued absence of Mzize is a blow to the squad. However, he emphasized that the priority is ensuring the striker fully recovers and returns to action at 100 percent fitness.
“Mzize has felt pain again. It’s not the same injury, it’s a different one. The doctors are working hard to ensure he recovers well. The important thing is to pray that it’s not a serious injury that will keep him out for a long period again,” Goncalves said while preparing his team for their league match against Namungo, which Yanga won 1-0.
Mzize’s injury troubles began during the 2024 CHAN tournament while on duty with Tanzania’s national team, Taifa Stars.
He returned at the start of the season and featured in the preliminary stages of the CAF Champions League, but was later sent to Morocco for knee surgery.
