Yanga wrapped up the CAF Champions League group stage in emphatic fashion, thrashing JS Kabylie 3-0 at the New Amaan Complex.
You could say coach Pedro Goncalves’ men owe no one anything, as they fought from the first minute in search of victory. In fact, the match could easily have ended with Yanga scoring even more goals.
It was Pacome Zouzoua who created the opening goal after being fouled in the danger area, prompting referee Jacques Ndala to award a penalty, which Depu confidently converted.
However, Pacome was unable to continue due to injury and was replaced by Mudathir Yahya.
Yanga went into halftime leading 1-0. They returned for the second half with even greater determination and managed to score two more goals through Depu and Chadrack Boka.
The victory, however, was not enough to send Yanga into the quarter-finals after the match between Al Ahly and AS FAR ended in a goalless draw.
Yanga finished third in Group B with eight points, while AS FAR secured second place with nine points, and Al Ahly topped the group with ten points.
The 1-1 home draw against Al Ahly can be seen as the result that ultimately disrupted Yanga’s hopes of reaching the quarter-finals.
Nevertheless, it is clear that Yanga competed strongly in a tough group, and they must now carry this momentum into domestic competitions to ensure they fight for and win every available trophy.
