Yanga head coach Pedro Goncalves had hoped that new signing Buba Jammeh, a Gambian national who was signed shortly before the mid-season transfer window closed, would join the team in Morocco.
However, that plan failed after the player encountered passport-related challenges in Gambia, which prevented him from traveling to Morocco.
Yanga’s Information and Communications Manager, Ali Kamwe, explained why the new star did not arrive in Morocco as previously reported, where he could have been part of the squad set to face AS FAR in the crucial fifth-round CAF Champions League match.
"In the initial plan, Buba was supposed to come directly here to Morocco. Everything was ready and in order, and he was expected to arrive today (yesterday) to train with the team."
"At the time we signed him, he was in Angola and was in the process of sorting out his passport, which required him to travel from Angola to Gambia to complete the process."
"By yesterday, he had largely completed the process, with only a few documents remaining. When we reviewed his travel arrangements to Morocco, we realized he would only arrive on Saturday morning."
"The coach wanted him to arrive early so that he could train with the team and assess whether he could be used in the match against AS FAR, but that became impossible due to these documentation challenges."
"As a result, the management has decided that Buba will travel directly to Dar es Salaam, where he will link up with the team after our match against AS FAR," said Kamwe.
