Tanzania’s national team, the “Taifa Stars,” have been knocked out of the AFCON 2025 tournament at the Round of 16 stage after suffering a narrow 1–0 defeat to host nation Morocco.
A 64th-minute goal by Brahim Díaz secured victory for Morocco in a tough encounter in which coach Miguel Gamondi’s side fought with great determination and resilience.
Early on, it appeared the match would be straightforward for Morocco, who are ranked number one in Africa, but the challenge posed by the Taifa Stars proved to be very different.
Despite spending long periods defending, the Stars created a few clear chances that Simon Msuva and Feisal Salum could have converted with better finishing.
The Stars could also have been awarded a penalty in the dying minutes, but VAR failed to intervene in an incident where Idi Nado appeared to be fouled.
It was a hard-fought match, and despite the defeat, the Taifa Stars represented Tanzania with great pride.
