On Thursday, December 4, at the KMC Complex Stadium, Yanga will return to NBC Premier League action when they host Fountain Gate in one of their rescheduled fixtures. This match comes just before the league takes a month-long break to pave the way for the 2025 AFCON tournament.
After that match, Yanga will be back on the pitch on December 7 to face Coastal Union. The venue for that game remains uncertain since Mkwakwani Stadium is currently suspended, and the hosts are expected to select an alternative ground.
Ahead of the Fountain Gate match, Yanga’s Media and Communications Manager, Ali Kamwe, announced that the game will serve as a special tribute to goalkeeper Djigui Diarra for his outstanding performance in Algeria during the CAF Champions League match against JS Kabylie.
Diarra showed remarkable bravery in that match, sustaining an injury in the first half but returning for the second half despite the pain, making crucial saves that played a major role in helping Yanga secure an important away point.
Kamwe stated that Thursday will be Diarra’s day to “collect gifts” from fans—a tradition Yanga supporters created to reward their players whenever they play at home.
“I invite all Yanga fans to come out in large numbers this Thursday at the KMC Complex Stadium for our match against Fountain Gate,”
“Come support our team in this game and also congratulate our players—most especially our goalkeeper Djigui Diarra.”
“On that day, Diarra will not use his regular bag; we will hand him a ‘shangazi kaja’ bag, and we want to ensure it’s filled by our fans,” Kamwe added.
Diarra has been in exceptional form since the start of the season, featuring in all competitions.
However, the injury he picked up in Algeria may sideline him for the Fountain Gate match, with Aboutwalib Mshery or Aboubakar Khomein expected to step in.
