The Chairman of Yanga’s Competition Committee, Rodgers Gumbo, has assured club members and fans that the team is fully prepared to perform well in the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
The group stage draw for the tournament was held recently in South Africa, where Yanga was placed in Group B alongside Al Ahly, AS FAR, and JS Kabylie.
Some Yanga supporters have expressed concern about their team’s chances in what many have described as a “group of death,” as Yanga faces three strong North African clubs.
Gumbo said that Yanga fans have no reason to fear any opponent, emphasizing that the team will show respect to their rivals but will approach each match strategically — with some plans made openly and others kept confidential.
“You can say it’s a tough group, but we are Yanga. We know the strength of our opponents, and we will prepare to face each team one by one without any fear.”
“We have a very strong squad, and as you’ve seen recently, we have strengthened our technical bench by bringing in a top coach. We’re in great shape and ready to compete.”
“We are going to plan carefully. We’ll meet with the technical team to strategize, but not everything will be public. Some plans will remain private — not every tactic for facing your opponent should reach your rival.”
“Our fans should not be intimidated. Yanga is a great club. Those who think we will fail — we must prove them wrong through our performance. In the past, there were fixtures we thought we’d easily win but didn’t, and others we thought were difficult but ended up conquering,” said Gumbo.
