Speculation Mounts Over Romain Folz’s Future at Yanga SC

Speculation is growing that Yanga SC could part ways with head coach Romain Folz just two months after his appointment, despite the fact that he has not lost a single game since taking charge of the Tanzanian champions.

This would not be the first time Yanga have made swift changes to their technical bench due to dissatisfaction with tactical approaches. In 2020, the club dismissed Zlatko Krmpotić just 37 days after his arrival, during a rebuilding phase following years of struggles. His replacement, Cedric Kaze, also failed to finish the season, with Nasreddine Nabi stepping in and later being credited by fans as the architect of the current successful Yanga side.

There has been no official communication from the club’s hierarchy regarding Folz’s fate, but if a decision is made, Yanga may prefer a coach already familiar with the current squad to avoid disruption at this crucial stage.

Recently departed coaches appear to be the likeliest candidates for a comeback, as introducing a new coach unfamiliar with Tanzanian football could prove risky. Names such as Miguel Gamondi, Sead Ramović, Miloud Hamdi, and even Nasreddine Nabi have been floated as potential replacements.

Hamdi, who guided Yanga to a historic treble last season, would be a natural fit if brought back, as the same core squad he worked with remains intact. His tenure ended with a 2–0 victory over Simba in the league, and Folz has continued to rely on the same lineup in key fixtures, including the Community Shield. Currently struggling with Ismaily in Egypt, Hamdi could be an available option.

Ramović, despite a short stint at Yanga, introduced a high-tempo style of play that overwhelmed opponents, with the popular rallying cry “Gusa, Achia, Twende Kwao” echoing among fans. However, the circumstances surrounding his departure may hinder his chances of a return. He is also facing a tough spell in Algeria, winning only one of his last five matches.

Gamondi is currently in charge of Singida Black Stars, having started the new season with back-to-back wins. He also led the team to the Kagame CECAFA Cup title and guided them past the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup, making him another strong candidate.

Nabi, meanwhile, is in Tanzania on holiday after parting ways with Kaizer Chiefs due to internal disagreements. He remains the fan-favorite option, with many Yanga supporters openly wishing for his return to the helm.
