Despite a tight schedule of back-to-back matches, Yanga Head Coach Romain Folz has assured that his squad is ready for the second-leg preliminary round of the CAF Champions League against Wiliete SC, to be played tomorrow, Saturday, at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Speaking during a press conference ahead of the match, Folz emphasized that his strategy is to win in order to progress to the next round of the competition.
“We are facing a run of consecutive matches, but we must be prepared to handle such a schedule throughout the season. I can say we are well-prepared for tomorrow’s game.”
“There is no change in our objectives — we want to play good football, win, and bring joy to our fans.”
“We had a very good match in Angola, where we denied our opponents freedom on their home ground and managed to score three goals.”
“I am fully aware this is the Champions League. Wiliete SC is not a small team; they had a very good season in their domestic league. We must recognize we are facing a tough opponent,” said Folz.
Folz further stressed that he will continue to utilize his squad based on the demands of each match, highlighting the importance of rotation given the busy schedule and the squad depth at his disposal.
“When it comes to the squad, my stance is clear — I have a deep team, and that is very important. We are competing in many tournaments, and I believe every player who shows commitment in training deserves the chance to play.”
“If we use the same lineup every game, it’s obvious we will demoralize other players. On top of that, it’s a long season, and I don’t know how any coach could perform well in all competitions without rotation.”
“We have many matches ahead, and there will be times when we must be at our very best. That is why, when it comes to rotation, I believe sometimes it becomes necessary,” added Folz.
