Midfielder Moussa Balla Conte believes he made the right decision by joining Yanga, vowing to work closely with his teammates to ensure the club achieves its goals.
Conte arrived at Yanga from Tunisian side CS Sfaxien in a move that generated buzz, especially after earlier reports linked him with a switch to Simba.
The midfielder has enjoyed a bright start with Yanga, lifting his first trophy in Rwanda as part of the squad that defeated Rayon Sports 3-1 during Rayon Day.
However, Conte joined Yanga to fill the shoes of fan favorite Khalid Aucho, raising questions among some supporters about whether he can live up to the legacy of the Ugandan star.
Conte has made it clear he does not feel pressured in carrying out his duties, emphasizing that he is not alone on the pitch and that Yanga has a wealth of talented players. He believes that with teamwork, the club will continue its success and achieve even greater milestones.
“I know Yanga is a big club, and in my position many great players have passed through. That doesn’t put pressure on me, because football is an open game. Yanga is complete in every area, and now it is my time to show what I can do,” said Conte, adding:
“I don’t play alone — we are 11 players on the pitch, and each one has a role to perform. I believe we will achieve something big, as expected by the fans who have great dreams for us. I know how to bring them joy.”
Conte said he believes Yanga has ambitious goals, and if the players align with the leadership’s plans and strategies, the team will succeed. For him, pressure is not an issue, as he has great confidence in the squad — including himself — to carry the club forward.
“Though I’ve been here a short time, I’ve already seen the high quality in the team. Every player has shown the hunger to succeed. So, together, without focusing on myself or the pressure around me, I clearly see my opportunity to do well,” Conte said.
Conte has also been called up to the Guinea national team for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
