Yanga SC is expected today to complete government payments (taxes) in order to be officially granted ownership of the land designated for the construction of their stadium, covering approximately 37,500 square meters.
The club had requested an additional 2,000 square meters, which the government approved. What remained was the completion of other formalities before Yanga could officially be handed the land.
During a recent Executive Committee meeting in Dar es Salaam, the club discussed the matter and approved the payments. Once the payments are made, Yanga will mark the boundaries of the land to establish official ownership, after which internal club procedures for the construction process will begin.
"Everything is in place, there is a payment to be made on Monday (today). Once it is done, we will officially own 37,500 square meters, which is more than enough for our construction," said one senior Yanga official, as quoted by Mwanaspoti.
"I believe that after the payment, everything will be officially announced at the general assembly scheduled for next weekend," the official added.
Yanga’s sponsor, GSM, will oversee the construction of the new stadium, which is expected to accommodate around 30,000 fans.
