Today marks the birthday of Yanga midfielder Salum Abubakar, popularly known as ‘Sureboy’ or Babu Kaju.
Since joining Yanga from Azam FC, Sureboy has continued to be a special player in the Citizens’ squad.
He likes to refer to himself as a “reserve log,” meaning you may not see him often in many matches, but when he does feature, his value becomes evident.
Remember Sureboy from the Confederation Cup matches three seasons ago against Club Africain in Tunisia, or the second leg final of the CAF Confederation Cup against USM Alger in Algeria.
In that final, Yanga’s then head coach Nasreddine Nabi was without his key midfielders Yannick Bangala and Khalid Aucho, but Sureboy stepped up to take charge in midfield alongside Mudathir Yahya, helping Yanga to a 1-0 victory in a highly pressured match.
The Citizens will continue to count on Sureboy in their squad for yet another season.
