After returning from Rwanda, Yanga’s squad will continue preparations for the new season under head coach Romain Folz, who now has around three crucial weeks to ensure the “Wananchi” are ready for both domestic and international challenges.
Recently, Yanga claimed a 3-1 victory over Rayon Sports at the Amahoro Stadium, a match that was part of the Rayon Day celebrations. Despite being a friendly, it carried great significance due to the stature and history of both clubs.
Speaking after the game, Folz emphasized that the win alone does not reflect the full picture of his team.
“This was a match that came early in our pre-season preparations. I’m happy to see my players fighting and winning, though in reality we are not yet at the level we want. After this game, we will now have more time to work on the training ground,” said the French tactician.
According to Folz, prior to facing Rayon, Yanga had only trained for about 10 days, with nearly 75% of the sessions focused on physical fitness, while just 25% was dedicated to tactical work.
After returning from Rwanda yesterday, the squad will begin the second phase of preparations this Wednesday at the KMC Complex, where greater emphasis will be placed on tactics.
This will be Folz’s chance to refine playing systems and implement the strategies he has been advocating since joining the club. Their next test will come during the climax of the “Wiki ya Mwananchi” (Citizen’s Week) before the Community Shield, where they may face rivals Simba.
Yanga fans have every reason to be optimistic. The squad has shown promising signs in the early stages of preparation, with the victory in Kigali serving as a glimpse of what could be achieved.
