Yanga SC's new striker, Andy Boyeli, says the club’s ambitions were the main reason he chose to join the Tanzanian champions from Sekhukhune United of South Africa.
Nicknamed *“Tembo”* (the elephant), Boyeli revealed he was impressed by Yanga's plans and proud history, describing the club as a consistent title winner in Tanzanian football.
“The most important thing that brought me here was the club's ambition. It’s a good team that wins trophies every season. Every player dreams of winning titles,” said Boyeli.
He added that a conversation with Yanga President Eng. Hersi Said helped seal the deal.
“I spoke with Yanga’s President, and I felt at peace about coming to Tanzania. He gave me confidence to come here and give my best,” he explained.
Since his arrival, Boyeli says his main goal is to score as many goals as possible and help the team achieve its targets.
The Congolese striker has chosen to wear jersey number 9, previously worn by fellow countryman and former Yanga star, Fiston Mayele.
“I will fight hard to score goals. I chose jersey number 9 knowing it was worn by Fiston Mayele. We played in the same league back in Congo — he was at AS Vita, and I was at RC Rangers. We’ve stayed in touch since his time here,” Boyeli shared.
“Mayele told me Yanga is the biggest club in Tanzania and has the best fans. He assured me I would enjoy my time here,” he added.
Boyeli has called on Yanga supporters to continue backing the team and all the players, promising to give his all on the pitch and fulfill his responsibilities.
