In their efforts to strengthen the squad ahead of the new Tanzanian Premier League season, Yanga SC is reported to be in the market for a left-back following rumors that Nickson Kibabage is set to leave, with links pointing toward a move to Singida Black Stars.
Currently, Yanga’s most relied-upon left-back is Chadrack Boka from DR Congo. Boka has delivered impressive performances since joining the club, but recurring injuries have frequently sidelined him, putting Yanga in a tough spot regarding the stability of their left defensive flank.
Several times last season, right-backs such as Israel Mwenda and Kibwana Shomari had to fill in on the left, not out of tactical preference but as an emergency solution.
Kibabage, who was expected to be the second-choice left-back, did not perform to expectations, forcing the technical bench to revise their plans.
Online speculation suggests that Simba SC captain Mohammed Hussein ‘Zimbwe Jr’ is on Yanga’s radar. It is reported that Zimbwe Jr has not signed a new contract with Simba, despite his current deal having expired.
Squad depth remains a top priority for Yanga, which is why the club aims to sign a left-back who can bring competition to the position—just as is the case in many other roles where Yanga boasts more than one strong option.
Yanga does not want to rely on a single player for such a critical position, especially considering the long season and involvement in multiple competitions including the CAF Champions League, FA Cup, and the domestic league.
Signing a capable local left-back who can compete for a starting spot would not only push Boka to improve, but also ensure the team has a reliable replacement whenever needed.
