Yanga SC is continuing its search for a new head coach to replace Miloud Hamdi, who recently departed to join Egyptian club Ismaily.
According to sources within the club, the new coach's name is expected to be announced by the end of July, with the new manager officially taking over during the pre-season that begins in early August.
Among the names being seriously considered, the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad Casablanca coach, Rulani Mokwena, is reportedly a strong candidate, with confirmed reports suggesting that Yanga has already contacted him. However, a new name has emerged and is capturing the attention of fans — ASEC Mimosas coach, Julien Chevalier.
Julien Chevalier has coached ASEC Mimosas for over four seasons and has built a reputation for an attractive, fast-paced, and creative style of football. What sets Chevalier apart is his ability to identify and nurture young talent, successfully developing players even without a squad full of big names.
During his tenure at ASEC, Chevalier achieved significant milestones, including reaching the group stage, quarter-finals, and semi-finals of both the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup — all with young players developed from the club’s academy.
Yanga SC has directly benefited from Chevalier’s work. Several of his former players at ASEC — such as Stephane Aziz Ki, Pacome Zouzoua, Yao Kouassi, and Celestin Ecua (who is already reported to have completed a deal with Yanga for the upcoming season) — have either played or are set to play for the Tanzanian giants.
If there is a coach capable of continuing Yanga’s football philosophy, nurturing talent, and working within a modern tactical framework, it is Julien Chevalier. His track record at ASEC makes him a strong candidate for a fresh challenge at a big club like Yanga SC.
