Yanga have strengthened their position in the race to defend their NBC Premier League title for a fourth consecutive season after a commanding 5-0 victory over Tanzania Prisons at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya.
Yanga had to wait nearly 30 minutes to break the deadlock, with Mudathir Yahya heading in a cross from Israel Mwenda to open the scoring.
The goal seemed to unlock Prisons' defense, as Clatous Chama added the second just minutes before halftime, finishing off a pass from Clement Mzize.
In the second half, Yanga continued their dominance, scoring three more goals—one from Israel Mwenda and two from Pacome Zouzoua.
Yanga suffered a setback when striker Prince Dube was forced off early in the first half with a hamstring injury. He was replaced by Chama, who scored shortly after coming on.
It was a match Yanga could have scored even more, with Chama, Mzize, and Pacome missing clear chances.
Pacome, who was named man of the match, now has 11 goals, climbing up in the Golden Boot race.
Yanga have now reached 76 points and remain top of the table, despite arch-rivals Simba also registering a 5-0 win over KenGold.
