Three days remain until match number 184 of the NBC Premier League between Yanga SC and Simba SC, scheduled for June 15, 2025. Instead of focusing on on-pitch preparations, the eyes and ears of Tanzanian football stakeholders are turned toward the escalating standoff between Yanga SC and the League Board (TPLB).
Despite leading the league and qualifying for the CRDB Federation Cup final, Yanga has firmly stood its ground, demanding significant reforms that appear to be pushing for the establishment of an independent, fair, and accountable football system in Tanzania.
Some are questioning why Yanga — a team at the top of the league table — would challenge the match schedule or call for leadership changes within TFF and TPLB. Others have gone further, dismissing these efforts as unnecessary disruption.
But Yanga’s core message is not about winning matches or titles — it is about upholding principles of justice, good governance, and respect for established rules. They argue: we cannot turn a blind eye to clear violations simply because we are doing well on the pitch.
Yanga is fighting for the establishment of an independent League Board, the resignation of officials accused of injustice, and the disbanding of the 72-hour Committee, which they claim makes questionable decisions that violate procedures. These are not selfish demands but structural ones that concern the future of the entire league.
Yanga has refused to be part of a system run through favoritism or unjust decisions, even if other clubs have chosen to remain silent.
