Yanga Sports Club will today attend a special meeting convened by the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) to seek a resolution regarding Match No. 184 of the NBC Premier League between Yanga and Simba, scheduled for June 15. However, Yanga has refused to participate in the match as it stands.
Yanga Executive Committee Member Alex Ngai confirmed the club's attendance at the meeting, despite not knowing the agenda.
"It’s true the club received an invitation from the League Board to attend this meeting, though we have not been informed of its agenda," he said.
"We are a football club. Even though many of our leaders are away, those who are available have agreed to attend the meeting," he added.
"I don't have more details at the moment. I think we should wait until the meeting concludes. We will then provide information to our members and fans on what transpired," Ngai stated.
Meanwhile, Yanga's Media and Communications Manager, Ali Kamwe, reiterated that the club's position is clear—they want their complaints addressed before agreeing to participate in the match.
"Yanga is a football club. Once they are ready to address our demands, we will play," said Kamwe.
Yanga’s delegation to the meeting will be led by Vice President Arafat Haji, and includes CEO Andre Mtine, Executive Committee Member Rodgers Gumbo, the club’s legal officer, and Communications Manager Ali Kamwe.
In an interview with a local media outlet, League Board Chairman Steven Mguto urged football stakeholders in the country to pray for a peaceful resolution to the dispute, in the interest of Tanzanian football.
"Yes, we have a meeting today. Let Tanzanians pray for this issue to be resolved peacefully, so that every side feels victorious. Your prayers are what we need," he said.
