Yanga Club Members Demand Leaders Stay Out of Match No. 184 Against Simba Scheduled for June 15 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium
Members of Yanga Club have urged the club’s leaders not to involve themselves in match number 184 of the NBC Premier League between Yanga and Simba, scheduled to be played on June 15 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Speaking during a meeting held earlier today at the Yanga headquarters in Jangwani, leaders of Yanga branches in Dar es Salaam and neighboring regions emphasized the club’s stance, urging the league board to publicly explain the reasons behind the postponement of the first match that was supposed to be played on March 8.
“We direct the club’s CEO to instruct his officers not to attend any meeting related to match number 184. The executive committee leaders initiated this position, and we supported it. Now, anyone who dares to take our team to the pitch on the 15th—the door is open,” one of them stated.
“We are not joking or acting. We are ready to face any punishment they see fit. So, any leader who thinks it’s right to take the team to the pitch on the 15th—the door is open, starting from the Engineer to all other leaders,” they added.
These branch leaders urged Yanga members and fans not to fall for any propaganda, stating the club’s position is clear: there is no match on June 15.
“We’ve heard the league board’s spokesperson saying that all arrangements are ongoing and that the match on the 15th will happen as planned. But we, as branch leaders on behalf of our members, continue to support the position of our executive committee—that match number 184 will not be played until we receive answers to the issues outlined in our letter dated March 9,” they insisted.
“They’re scheduling the derby for June 15, yet we haven’t received answers to the matter under investigation. Therefore, we, as branch leaders on behalf of the members, say this is unfair treatment, and we will not take the team to the pitch on the 15th of this month,” they continued.
“Since the match does not exist, we ask Yanga members and fans in different regions and even in Dar es Salaam not to bother with the June 15 match—it is not happening,” said one of the branch leaders in Dar es Salaam.
Meanwhile, the coordinator of the elders' council, Mzee Msumi, urged Yanga fans not to attend the Kariakoo Derby match scheduled for June 15 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium. He stated that as a club, their stance remains unchanged and called on citizens to focus on the upcoming general elections.
