The South African club Kaizer Chiefs has decided to abandon its plan to sign Yanga SC’s number one goalkeeper, Djigui Diarra, after discovering that the player still has two years remaining on his contract with the Tanzanian champions.
Reports indicate that the current Chiefs coach, Nasreddine Nabi, who also previously coached Yanga, visited Tanzania recently, and his visit was linked to discussions regarding the signing of some players, including Djigui Diarra.
However, Chiefs' efforts have hit a snag after Yanga’s management made it clear that Diarra is still under a long-term contract with two years left. Initially, Chiefs believed the player had only one year remaining, which would have made it easier to negotiate a low-cost transfer.
One of the top officials at Kaizer Chiefs was quoted by Mwanaspoti as saying:
“There were proposals for us to sign Diarra, but we were told he had only one year left. When we contacted Yanga, they showed us that his contract still has two years remaining. So we see that it will be difficult to get him for a reasonable price.”
“We are now focusing on other options we had. We can’t continue with the Diarra deal. He is a good goalkeeper, but our budget limits us,” the official added.
For now, it appears Djigui Diarra may remain at Jangwani to continue serving the country’s reigning champio
