Chairman of Yanga's Council of Elders, Mohamed Msumi, has responded to remarks made by Premier League Board Chairman, Steven Mguto, who recently stated that match number 184 between Yanga and Simba, scheduled for June 15, will go ahead as planned.
Speaking to the media after the NBC Premier League match between Simba and Singida Black Stars, Mguto asserted that the Board has already set the date for the match and will not be swayed by statements from Yanga officials claiming they will not play.
In response, Elder Msumi said the Board has not yet addressed all the concerns raised by Yanga, and therefore the position of the Council of Elders remains unchanged—they will not allow Yanga officials to send the team to the pitch.
“Up to now, the Premier League Board has not come out publicly to respond to Yanga’s three main issues, so it will not be possible for the club elders to accept any decision,” said Msumi.
He went further to question Mguto’s legitimacy as Chairman of the Premier League Board:
“First of all, we do not recognize Steven Mguto as the Board Chairman because he lost legitimacy. Which club does Mguto represent? Coastal Union already has its own Chairman—so whom is he representing?” Msumi asked.
Among the issues raised by Yanga, one key demand was for the Premier League Board to explain the reasons behind the postponement of the match, which was initially scheduled for March 8. Their earlier statement claimed that investigations were ongoing regarding several matters, but instead of releasing their findings, the Board simply set a new date for the match without addressing Yanga’s concerns.
