Tanzania’s Yanga SC appears to be in the final stages of concluding a deal with TP Mazembe's right-back, Ibrahim Keita, who is expected to arrive in Dar es Salaam soon for final talks before signing a contract, according to reports.
According to Mwanaspoti, Keita is expected to arrive in the country on June 12 to finalize the deal. Yanga has been monitoring the 23-year-old defender, who has played successfully for TP Mazembe over the past three seasons and is now nearing the end of his contract with the Congolese club.
This move by Yanga aims to fill the void left by Yao Kouassi, who is expected to be out of action for six months after undergoing knee surgery.
Kouassi has been a key pillar in Yanga’s defensive lineup, but his injury has forced the Tanzanian champions to start searching early for his replacement.
Keita confirmed having talks with Yanga but clarified that no final agreement has been reached yet.
“It’s true I’ve had talks with Yanga, but we haven’t reached an agreement yet. I watched their team in international competitions — it’s a good side. I’m currently finishing my contract, but three seasons is a long time with one club, and I’m planning to seek a new challenge,” said Keita.
If the deal is completed, Keita will be among Yanga’s strategic signings for the upcoming Mainland Premier League season and continental competitions, especially considering Kouassi might not be registered until January 2026 when the mid-season transfer window opens.
Yanga continues to demonstrate strong technical planning, and should Keita sign, he would strengthen the full-back positions alongside Israel Mwenda, Kibwana Shomari, Nickson Kibabage, and Chadrack Boka.
