Yanga Club has filed a case with the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) challenging the League Board for postponing the Premier League match against Simba without following the rules and asking the Court to award them three points as the rules indicate when a team boycotts a match
Yanga's decision to file the case comes after the League Board rejected their request to be awarded three points after Simba's boycott on March 08
Yanga Club has expressed its lack of confidence in the League Board leaders and that it will not be ready to play the match on another date to be scheduled
If Yanga wins the case, it means that the 2024/25 league operating rules will be followed, but a heavy penalty could also fall on Simba for canceling the match
The League Board could also be in trouble as it is clear that they will face accusations of being used to justify what Simba intended to do, namely boycott the match
It should be noted that Simba, which participated in all the preparations for the game, issued a statement on the eve of Saturday, March 08, claiming that their club was prevented from holding its final training session at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
On the morning of the game, the League Board Chairman Steven Mnguto was quoted by the media as insisting that the game was still on and urging football fans to hurry up and buy tickets.
The League Board's statement to postpone the game came at 7 pm on the day of the game, approximately 12 hours after Simba announced that they would boycott the game.
