Firstly, the incident where Khalid Aucho elbowed Ibrahim Ajibu in the premier league game against Coastal Union was not a gentleman, he would have been given a red card by the referee and no one would have questioned those decisions
Despite being provoked, players should handle their anger and make sure they protect the safety of their teammates on the field
After Aucho was shown a yellow card in the game, many expected that there would be no further punishment against him.
Why? because the referee's punishment (being given a yellow card) has already come out but if the referee had not taken action (if he did not see the incident) then this is the Committee's punishment of suspending Aucho for three matches, no one would question its validity
Or if the referee had given Aucho a straight red card, it is clear that he would have served his punishment without raising many questions
This is not the first incident that happened in our league and TPLB themselves once clarified that the incidents that the referee saw and took action on the field, then the Committee cannot impose more penalties because to do so is to impose a double penalty
But for what the referees did not see, the Committee will give punishment based on the type of mistakes made
Last season in the Community Shield game, defender Hennock Inonga made a very bad tackle on Salum Abubakar 'Sure Boy', the referee gave Inonga a yellow card
When the stakeholders questioned why Inonga was not punished by the Committee, the reason given was that the referee had already given a penalty on the field (yellow card) a player cannot be punished twice
Similar incident happened in a game against Coastal Union, Yanga midfielder Yannick Bangala was fouled by Coastal Union's Mtenje Albano, Mtenje was given a yellow card and no further action was taken
Maybe if there is a change in the rule for this season, Aucho becomes the first player to be penalized twice (referee and committee)
But I also don't think it is right for the Committee to interfere with the punishments given by the referees on the field, if we allow this we will fall badly
There are a lot of mistakes referees make in our league but they are protected, mostly they are punished for failing to properly follow the rules of football and not canceling what they decided in the relevant match
If we want to cancel what the referees are doing on the field, then let's not stop at the cards, even those goals that are rejected on the pretext of offside, then let's return the rightful teams
