In 1998 Yanga played in the top eight of the Champions League which involved only two groups
Two teams from each group went straight to the semi-finals and later the champion was found as the current system
In 2016 Yanga played in the top eight of the Confederations Cup in Africa in a manner similar to that of the Champions League in previous years
Starting in 2017 CAF made changes to its tournament where the group stage involved 16 teams instead of the previous eight teams
Since then two teams from each group have reached the top eight (now the quarter finals) and the process of getting the champion continues as before
The fact is that Yanga were the first team to play in the top eight (now quarter-finals) of the Champions League and Confederations Cup from Tanzania
The difference is that at that time the process was different from now. The knockout matches were many compared to the current one
It was not an easy task to challenge to the group stage, as that stage is the current quarter-final
