Yanga SC head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has acknowledged that TRA United are a highly competitive team capable of playing with various tactical approaches, while outlining the areas his side must control to secure a positive result in their NBC Mainland Premier League encounter.
Yanga are scheduled to face TRA United tomorrow, Saturday, at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha, in a match expected to be fiercely contested given the quality of both squads.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the match, Mngqithi said he had the opportunity to watch TRA United and was impressed by the strong performances the team has produced under its coach.
“I have had the opportunity to follow TRA United, and I have been impressed by the good level of performance they have shown under their coach. They are a highly competitive team with experienced players and a good ability to play using different tactical approaches,” Mngqithi said.
Set Pieces and Counterattacks
Mngqithi said Yanga face a difficult task and must prepare thoroughly, stressing the importance of respecting their opponents’ capabilities.
He identified set pieces as the first area in which Yanga must remain alert, explaining that TRA United are particularly strong at exploiting opportunities from such situations.
The coach also said his team needs to maintain a good defensive structure while attacking to prevent their opponents from launching counterattacks.
“We need to be strong when defending set pieces because that is one of their strengths. We also need to maintain a good defensive structure when attacking to prevent their counterattacks,” he said.
Outlines a Strategy to Control Three Key Areas
The coach explained that Yanga’s strategy would go beyond defending set pieces and counterattacks. It would also involve preventing their opponents from building attacks freely from the back.
He said TRA United are capable of building attacks through their defenders, with their defensive midfielder, or number six, frequently dropping into the space between the centre-backs.
Mngqithi stressed that Yanga must press their opponents when they attempt to build from the back, warning that giving them space and time on the ball could allow them to exploit their strengths.
“If we manage to control those three areas, I believe we will have a good chance of getting the result we need,” the coach said.
Mngqithi noted that TRA United have capable players in several areas of the pitch, making them opponents who require thorough preparation.
He said the team’s full-backs push forward aggressively to support attacks, while their centre-backs are experienced and technically capable.
He also pointed out that TRA United’s attacking line features dangerous players who can cause problems for their opponents, meaning Yanga must remain highly focused throughout the match.
“TRA can build attacks from the back, with their number six frequently operating between the centre-backs. Their full-backs also push forward aggressively to support attacks. The centre-backs are experienced and capable, while the attacking line has dangerous players,” he said.
Mngqithi said he had prepared his squad well, taking into account both the strengths and weaknesses of their opponents. He expressed confidence that Yanga could secure all three points if his players followed and executed their game plan effectively.
