Yanga Face CFFA in CAF Champions League Qualifier with Home Advantage

Tanzania Mainland champions Yanga will take to the pitch this Saturday, October 17, to face Madagascar’s CFFA in the first leg of the second round of qualifying for the group stage of the CAF Champions League (CAF CL).

The match is scheduled to be played at Azam Complex in Chamazi at 3:00 p.m., with both sides knowing the importance of securing a place in the prestigious continental competition.

Yanga Enjoy Home Advantage

Although CFFA are technically the hosts for this first-leg encounter, the Madagascar representatives were forced to select Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam as their home venue after failing to find a stadium in their country that meets CAF requirements.

This situation gives Yanga a significant psychological and environmental advantage, as they will play both legs without travelling outside Tanzania and will be surrounded by thousands of their supporters.

Yanga head into the match after losing 2-1 to their traditional rivals, Simba SC, in the Kariakoo Derby on October 10. The disappointment of that domestic league defeat is expected to motivate the Wananchi to fight hard for a convincing victory that would put them in a strong position to reach the group stage and restore smiles to their fans.

CFFA Are No Pushovers

For their part, Madagascar champions CFFA FC have arrived determined to prove that their progress to this stage was no accident. They advanced by eliminating Lesotho’s Lijabatho FC 3-1 on aggregate in the first round.

CFFA are a team that rely heavily on defensive discipline and quick counterattacks, a strategy they are expected to employ in this encounter.

Speaking after the team arrived in Tanzania on Thursday, CFFA head coach Franck Rajaonarisamba expressed confidence that he knows Yanga well. He pointed to several Yanga players who featured for Tanzania’s national team in their 2027 AFCON qualifying match against Madagascar, which ended in a 1-1 draw in Morocco.

CFFA right-back Radoniaina Rabemanantsoa played the full 90 minutes of that match.
