Yanga SC head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has used the FIFA international break to return to South Africa for a short break before resuming his duties with Wananchi.
Mngqithi travelled home while the NBC Premier League is suspended to make way for Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches, giving the coach an opportunity to rest after a busy start to the season.
The coach has also allowed Yanga players who were not called up by their respective national teams to use this period for a break before returning to camp to prepare for the upcoming schedule.
YANGA TO RETURN ON SEPTEMBER 28
Yanga’s squad is expected to return to camp on September 28, 2026, when preparations will begin for the major Kariakoo Derby against Simba SC.
The match will be Yanga’s first fixture after the FIFA international break, with the team then facing a congested schedule.
Once the league resumes, Yanga will face a run of five matches in 17 days, averaging one match every three to four days.
CAF ALSO AWAITS
In addition to the Kariakoo Derby, the schedule also includes two important CAF Champions League matches as Yanga battle for a place in the group stage against Madagascar’s CFFA FC.
Those matches will be an important part of Yanga’s continental campaign, with Mngqithi and his squad expected to use the break to prepare for the challenges ahead.
Since arriving in Tanzania and officially taking charge of Yanga, this is the first time Mngqithi has returned to South Africa for a short break.
However, the break will not be a long one, as he is expected to return on September 28 with his squad to begin preparations for a demanding period of the season.
