Yanga returned to training today as they prepare for an international friendly against Ethiopia’s St George, scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, at Uhuru Stadium.
After the match, players called up for national team duty are expected to join their respective countries for the 2027 AFCON qualifying matches. For those who remain with the club, however, it will be a period of intensive work.
Yanga head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has made it clear that he plans to use this period to improve the fitness levels of some players who have yet to reach 100 percent fitness.
On several occasions, Mngqithi has explained why he has either left certain players out or used them for limited minutes, citing their lack of full fitness.
“During the FIFA international break, we will have a specific period to work with players who have not yet reached the desired level of physical fitness.”
“We will use this period to gradually raise their fitness levels until they reach the standard we want,” Mngqithi said.
The players Mngqithi will be working with on the training ground include Dickson Job and Clement Mzize, who have been sidelined for an extended period with injuries.
Also included is Kibwana Shomari, who has also been recovering from injury, while Stephane Aziz Ki joins the group after missing a significant part of pre-season preparations.
