Tanzania Mainland football champions Yanga are expected to take on Madagascar’s CFFA FC next month in the second round of the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) qualifying stage for the group phase.
The tie comes after both teams completed their first-round fixtures this weekend and advanced with victories on aggregate.
Yanga secured their place yesterday, September 12, after edging Botswana’s Gaborone United 2-1 at Azam Complex in Chamazi.
The Wananchi goals were scored by forwards Peter Shalulile and Cheikh Ibrahima Toure.
The victory saw Yanga progress 3-2 on aggregate, following a 1-1 draw in the first leg played away in Gaborone last week.
Meanwhile, Yanga’s opponents, CFFA FC, booked their place after eliminating Lesotho’s Lijabatho FC 3-1 on aggregate.
The Madagascar side won the first leg 2-0 at home before being held to a 1-1 draw away yesterday.
According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) schedule, Yanga will play the first leg away between October 16 and 18, 2026. The match is expected to be played in Mauritius because Madagascar’s stadiums do not meet CAF requirements.
The return leg will be played in Dar es Salaam between October 23 and 25, 2026, with the aggregate winner securing a place in the group stage of Africa’s premier club competition.
Yanga head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has urged supporters to continue backing the team, stressing that their objective this season is to go further on the international stage.
