Tanzania Mainland champions Yanga SC face a decisive CAF Champions League test today when they take on Botswana’s Gaborone United at Azam Complex, Chamazi, in the second leg of the preliminary round.
The match comes as Yanga look to maintain their impressive record in the preliminary stages after being held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Botswana.
The decisive encounter, which will determine the team advancing to the first round of the competition, is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m.
Yanga have enjoyed an impressive record in the CAF Champions League preliminary round over the past four seasons, remaining unbeaten in the first leg and often dominating their opponents with convincing victories.
In the 2022/23 season, Yanga defeated Zalan FC 4-0 away and 5-0 at home. The following season, 2023/24, they beat ASAS Djibouti 2-0 away and 5-1 at home.
In the 2024/25 season, Yanga continued their dominance by defeating Burundi’s Vital’O 4-0 away and 6-0 in the return leg, before beating Angola’s Wiliete 3-0 away and 2-0 at home in the 2025/26 season.
However, things have started differently this season after Gaborone United denied Yanga victory in the first leg, a result that has increased the importance of today’s match.
For Yanga, any victory will guarantee their place in the next round, while a 0-0 draw would also see them advance under the away-goals rule.
Yanga fans have now turned their attention to Chamazi, where their team will be seeking victory and a continuation of its quest for continental glory.
