Yanga striker Suleiman Mwalimu has responded both with his performance and his words after emerging as the team’s hero in their CAF Champions League clash against Botswana’s Gaborone United.
Mwalimu, who joined Yanga from Wydad AC after turning down Simba during this transfer window, brought great joy to the Wananchi fans yesterday by scoring a late equaliser to earn Yanga a 1-1 draw away from home.
The goal sparked wild celebrations among Yanga supporters who had gathered in large numbers at the club’s headquarters in Jangwani, Dar es Salaam, to watch the match.
But beyond the goal, Mwalimu delivered another important message after the match.
Speaking after helping Yanga secure a positive result in Botswana, the striker made it clear that he loves the Wananchi and is happy to be part of the reigning champions.
His comments contrast with remarks previously made by Simba midfielder Clatous Chama, “The Lusaka Warrior,” about Mwalimu’s situation following his move to Yanga.
What Did Chama Say?
While recounting his own experience of leaving Simba and joining Yanga during the 2024/25 season, Chama revealed that he personally was not happy with the decision and even tried to return to Simba after signing a contract with Yanga.
During the interview, Chama also mentioned Mwalimu and claimed that the striker was unhappy after joining Yanga.
The remarks raised questions about Mwalimu’s actual situation at Yanga, particularly because his transfer from Simba to Yanga was one of the most closely followed stories of this transfer window.
But yesterday, Mwalimu appeared to give his own answer.
