Gaborone United appear unhappy with Yanga’s decision to decline the bus they had provided for the Tanzanian club’s transportation during their stay in Botswana.
Gaborone United, Yanga SC’s opponents in today’s first-leg preliminary-round CAF Champions League clash at the Botswana National Stadium, made various preparations to welcome their visitors, including arranging a dedicated team bus.
However, Yanga opted to use transportation they had arranged themselves, a decision that prompted complaints from their hosts.
A Gaborone United spokesperson claimed that the club had spent a significant amount of money on the arrangements, expecting Yanga to use the services as planned.
Kamwe Responds
Commenting on the matter, Yanga SC Information and Communications Manager Ali Kamwe said the issue was not significant and did not deserve to turn into a complaint.
Kamwe explained that the competition regulations require the host club to provide suitable arrangements for the visiting team, but there is no rule requiring the visitors to use transportation provided by the hosts.
Kamwe gave the example that when teams travel to Tanzania, some of them also choose not to use the vehicles or transportation arranged by their hosts for various reasons.
“The regulations require the host to make arrangements for the visiting team, but there is no rule requiring the visitors to use what has been provided for them,” he said.
Yanga Also Travelled With Their Own Food and Water
Besides transportation, Yanga have also made their own arrangements for other necessities during their stay in Botswana.
Kamwe explained that some teams travelling for international competitions carry their own food and water to ensure their players receive provisions they trust and are accustomed to.
Yanga have done the same in Botswana as part of their preparations for the match.
