Yanga fans watched midfielder Fredy Ngoma make his competitive debut for the club two days ago, playing 74 minutes in his first official appearance of the season.
The Congolese midfielder joined Yanga during the previous transfer window from Bizertin but had not featured in any match since the start of the season. It was reported that he was not yet fully fit to join coach Manqoba Mngqithi's squad, with the coach insisting on having players who are 100 percent fit.
In the match, which Yanga won 2-0 at KMC Complex, Ngoma produced an impressive performance that will give Yanga fans plenty of encouragement. Since Khalid Aucho's departure, many supporters have felt that the gap left by the midfielder had never been adequately filled.
Ngoma completed 34 passes during the match, with 32 finding their intended targets and only two going astray. Even more encouraging was his willingness to play the ball forward, with many of his passes aimed at progressing Yanga's attacks.
In that role, he is likely to form a partnership with versatile midfielder Duke Abuya, who appears to have particularly impressed Mngqithi. The South African coach has praised Abuya on several occasions, highlighting his importance to the team's midfield.
