Yanga Breaks Silence on Israel Mwenda Dispute, Reveals Official Communications

Yanga SC management has clarified its position on the ongoing dispute between the club and right-back Israel Patrick Mwenda, while revealing details of the official communication exchanged between the two parties.

Speaking to Crown FM Radio, Yanga SC Information and Communications Manager Ali Kamwe said the club has documents detailing the various steps it has taken since the player left the team’s training camp without notifying management.

Mwenda Requested Time Off

According to Kamwe, Mwenda himself requested permission to take time off after explaining that he was not in the right psychological state to perform his footballing duties effectively.

Kamwe said the player submitted the request on July 3, after Yanga management had written to him several times asking him to explain why he had left the training camp without notifying the club.

The club has stressed that it has written evidence of its communication with Mwenda, including letters and instructions issued regarding the matter.

Mwenda’s absence from the training camp caused him to miss several important matches towards the end of last season, further intensifying the debate over the defender’s future at the club.

Yanga Responds to Mwenda’s Father’s Claims

Yanga’s clarification also follows comments made by the player’s father, Patrick Mwenda, who spoke about matters concerning his son’s welfare and allegations that his wages had been withheld.

However, Kamwe said Yanga does not handle the matter based on statements from everyone involved, but instead deals with the parties legally recognised under the player’s contract, which is reportedly valid until 2028.

Mwenda Ordered to Report to Club

Meanwhile, Kamwe said Yanga has written to Mwenda instructing him to report to the club and appear before management to explain his absence and participate in efforts to resolve the dispute.

According to the club, the move is intended to give the player an opportunity to present his side of the story and clarify the reasons behind his absence from camp, rather than allowing the matter to continue being misrepresented.
