Yanga have made a strong start to their campaign to defend the NBC Premier League title for a sixth consecutive season, defeating Namungo FC 3-1 in a match played at Majaliwa Stadium in Ruangwa, Lindi.
Yanga dominated the game for much of the match, creating several attacking opportunities, while their opponents focused more on defending and looking to exploit counter-attacking opportunities.
The first 45 minutes ended goalless, with both sides unable to break the deadlock despite Yanga missing several clear chances through their leading striker, Peter Shalulile.

Yanga finally opened the scoring in the 68th minute through Chadrack Boka, who finished from a corner kick delivered by Kangwanda.
Four minutes later, Maxi Nzengeli doubled Yanga’s lead with a powerful shot from outside the 18-yard box that beat the Namungo goalkeeper.

Namungo FC pulled one goal back in the 76th minute through Helbert Lukindo, following one of their biggest attacking moves of the match.
Shalulile then scored Yanga’s third goal in the 89th minute, capitalising on a mistake by Namungo FC defender Frank Magingi.
The crucial three points away from home move Yanga up to second place in the league standings.
