Yanga have successfully defended the Community Shield for a second consecutive season after defeating Simba 1-0 in the match played at the New Amaan Complex Stadium in Zanzibar.
Albert Kangwanda’s goal secured the important victory for Yanga over their traditional rivals Simba and silenced their opponents.
This is Yanga’s fifth Community Shield title in the last six seasons. The victory takes Yanga’s total number of Community Shield titles to 10, extending their lead over Simba, who have won the trophy seven times.
It was also a memorable day for striker Suleiman Mwalimu, who joined Yanga from Simba yesterday and was given the honour of lifting the trophy alongside his new teammates during the celebrations.
Yanga is a home of trophies, and Mwalimu will surely have no regrets about joining the Tanzanian champions!
