Tanzania national team defensive midfielder Alphonce Mabula has returned to the country amid reports that he is on the verge of joining Tanzanian champions Yanga.
Mabula has been strongly linked with Yanga during this transfer window, with reports indicating that an agreement for him to join the club had already been reached, leaving only the signing of the contract to complete the move.
The Tanzania international has considerable overseas experience, having spent nearly four seasons playing in Europe. Before joining Azerbaijan's Shamakhi in January 2025, Mabula was part of Serbian club Spartak Subotica, whom he joined in February 2022 from Alliance FC.
In addition to Spartak Subotica, Mabula also spent the 2024/25 season on loan at RFK Novi Sad, gaining further experience in the competitive environment of European football.
Mabula's versatility in midfield is one of the qualities that has attracted Yanga. In addition to his ability to play as a defensive midfielder, he can also contribute to building attacks thanks to his understanding of the game.
Although he is a domestic player, his experience competing in international tournaments and playing competitive football outside Tanzania is reportedly one of the key reasons Yanga officials have been attracted to his services.
A surprise is reportedly being prepared for Yanga supporters on Sunday during Yanga Day, and Mabula's arrival could be officially announced at the event.
