After finishing last season with an attack that lacked cutting edge in several matches, Yanga have adopted a new strategy.
During the current transfer window, the Tanzanian champions have heavily invested in strengthening their attacking department to ensure the team is more clinical in both scoring and creating goals during the 2026/27 season.
Cheikh Ibrahima Touré Arrives with an Impressive Record
The departure of Prince Dube has not weakened Yanga's ambitions in front of goal. The club has signed experienced striker Cheikh Ibrahima Touré, a Senegalese-born forward who also holds French citizenship.
Touré joins Yanga after successful spells in Europe and the Middle East. Across 222 competitive appearances, he has scored 90 goals and provided 32 assists, underlining his reputation as a proven goalscorer.
Depu Retains the Club's Confidence
Alongside Touré, Yanga have chosen to retain their faith in Laurindo Aurelio "Depu." The striker joined during last season's mid-season transfer window and, despite being hampered by injuries that limited his playing time, still demonstrated his quality.
Depu scored nine goals in the Tanzania Mainland Premier League, added three more in the CRDB Federation Cup, and netted twice in the CAF Champions League group stage. Those performances convinced the club that he remains an important part of the squad.
Justice Figuareido Also Linked
Reports indicate that Yanga have also completed the signing of Eswatini striker Justice Figuareido from South African side Chippa United.
Figuareido is believed to be a recommendation from head coach Manqoba Mngqithi. Last season he registered two goals and five assists for Chippa United, while also scoring twice for the Eswatini national team during the FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
Mzize Returns from Injury
There is more positive news for Yanga supporters as striker Clement Mzize has returned to training after spending an extended period on the sidelines through injury.
Mzize has resumed training at the club's pre-season camp in Avic Town alongside defender Dickson Job. Although both players remain under medical supervision, their return provides a timely boost ahead of the new campaign.
Creative Reinforcements Added
Yanga have not only strengthened their striking options but have also invested in creative players capable of supplying goals.
Among the new arrivals are Zambian winger Albert Kangwanda, the reigning Zambia Super League Most Valuable Player, and Comoros international winger Housseine Zakouani.
The club has also added domestic talents Juma Abushiri "Chuga Boy" and Erick Mwijage to increase creativity and pace in the wide areas.
Aziz Ki Remains a Transfer Target
Meanwhile, Yanga continue their efforts to re-sign attacking midfielder Stephane Aziz Ki.
Reports suggest Aziz Ki has requested to leave Al Ittihad, with the Libyan club reportedly seeking around TZS 1.9 billion to sanction his departure. The midfielder has been seen training individually in Tanzania, further fueling speculation that a deal could be completed in the coming days.
If Yanga succeed in bringing Aziz Ki back, they would add another midfielder capable of both scoring and creating goals. At present, Allan Okello is the club's only natural number 10, making Aziz Ki's potential return a significant boost to competition and quality in that position.
Based on the club's recruitment so far, it is clear that Yanga have prioritized improving their attacking firepower. From central strikers to wingers and attacking midfielders, every area has been strengthened with the aim of restoring the cutting edge that was missing at times last season.
If the new signings adapt quickly to coach Manqoba Mngqithi's system while the returning players maintain their form, Yanga could boast one of the strongest attacking units in the league next season and be well positioned to compete successfully in the Tanzania Mainland Premier League, the CRDB Federation Cup, and the CAF Champions League.
