Yanga players underwent medical tests yesterday ahead of officially entering camp to begin preparations for the 2026/27 competitive season.
What pleased Yanga supporters was seeing some players who had been doubtful to remain part of the defending champions' squad for the upcoming season taking part in the exercise.
Veteran midfielder Salum Abubakar, popularly known as "Sure Boy," was among the players who participated in the medical tests.
Reports indicate that Sure Boy, also known as "Babu Kaju," has extended his contract for another year to continue serving the Tanzanian champions.
Yanga decided to retain Sure Boy due to his experience and his important role in motivating the team, particularly within the dressing room.
Goalkeeper Hussein Masalanga was also present during the exercise. His loan deal from Singida Black Stars expired at the end of last season.
Yanga have now signed Masalanga on a permanent basis as a free agent after his contract with Singida Black Stars ended. The goalkeeper has also signed a one-year contract.
Winger Denis Nkane, who spent last season on loan at TRA United, has also returned to the squad.
Due to the demanding schedule ahead, Yanga are expected to have a squad of between 35 and 40 players this season.
Recently, TFF President Wallace Karia advised clubs to register more players in order to cope with the intense fixture schedule expected in the upcoming campaign.
The NBC Premier League is expected to conclude in May to allow preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which is scheduled to begin in mid-June 2027.
