Yanga Appoint Former Crystal Palace Midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi as Assistant Coach

Yanga have reached an agreement to appoint former South Africa international and ex-Crystal Palace midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi as the club's new assistant coach.

Dikgacoi joins the reigning Tanzanian Mainland Premier League champions at the recommendation of newly appointed head coach Manqoba Mngqithi.

He will serve as assistant coach alongside Abdilhamid Moalin, with both working under Mngqithi as part of Yanga's technical staff.

The appointment is aimed at strengthening the club's coaching bench ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Reports indicate that Dikgacoi has already arrived in Tanzania and has begun his new role at Yanga's training camp in Avic Town, Kigamboni, Dar es Salaam.

Yanga are scheduled to officially begin their pre-season preparations on Monday, July 20, 2026.

His Playing Career

Kagisho Dikgacoi enjoyed a distinguished playing career at both club and international level.

  • South African Football: He began his career with Bloemfontein Young Tigers before playing for Golden Arrows, where he established himself as one of the country's top midfielders.
  • European Football: Dikgacoi went on to play in England's Premier League and Championship, representing Fulham FC, Crystal Palace—where he made more than 100 appearances—and Cardiff City.
  • South Africa National Team: He earned 54 caps for Bafana Bafana and scored two goals. He was a key member of the South African squad at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, providing the assist for Siphiwe Tshabalala's historic opening goal of the tournament against Mexico. He also represented his country at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2008 and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Coaching Career

After retiring from professional football, Dikgacoi moved into coaching and has held several roles in South Africa.

  • He worked as both an assistant coach and head coach at Royal Eagles, Witbank Spurs, and Mangaung Unite.
  • Most recently, he served as assistant coach at Golden Arrows, where he worked closely with Manqoba Mngqithi.

Yanga's Expectations

Yanga's management believes the strong working relationship already established between Dikgacoi and Mngqithi during their time at Golden Arrows will benefit the club.

The club's main objectives for the 2026/27 season are to maintain their domestic dominance and make a deeper run in the CAF Champions League.
